Gusteaux is a place to share food you cook. By creating an account, tapping I agree, or using the app, you accept these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use Gusteaux.
These terms are written for a small consumer app. They are not a substitute for advice from a lawyer who represents you. We may update them; the date above is the current version.
1. Who may use Gusteaux
You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 16, do not create an account. You must give a real email you control and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for activity on your kitchen.
2. The service
Gusteaux lets people post dish photos, write or import recipes, follow other cooks, comment, rate plates, and keep a private fridge list. Guests may browse some public content. Posting and most social actions require an account with a confirmed email.
Public kitchens are visible to other people in the app. Private kitchens share dishes only with cooks you accept. Web links to a dish, recipe, or cook do not show your photos. We may change, suspend, or stop features.
3. Your content
You keep whatever rights you already have in photos, recipes, captions, comments, and other material you post (“your content”). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and display your content as needed to operate, secure, and improve Gusteaux, including showing it to other cooks according to your privacy settings.
You promise that:
- you took the photos or have permission to post them;
- recipes you paste, scan, or import are yours to share, or you have the right to post them (a public web link is not automatically permission to copy a full recipe);
- your content does not infringe someone else’s rights and does not break the law.
We do not claim ownership of your recipes. If you delete a dish or your account, we remove it from active use, except copies we keep for a short time in backups, or content we must retain for safety, legal, or abuse investigations.
4. What you may not do
You agree not to:
- post hate, slurs, harassment, threats, bullying, or spam;
- post pornography, sexual content, or any sexual content involving minors — that is forbidden, we will remove it, and we will report it where the law requires;
- post stolen photos, impersonate someone, or misrepresent a dish as yours when it is not;
- scrape the service, run bots, flood the feed, or try to bypass rate limits or filters;
- probe, disrupt, or overload our systems, or use another cook’s account.
The Community Guidelines explain this in kitchen language. If they conflict with these Terms, these Terms control.
5. Moderation
We may hide or delete content, close a kitchen, or ban an email if we believe these Terms or the Guidelines were broken, or if we must do so to protect people or the service. We filter some banned phrases and rate-limit new posts. That does not catch every photo or coded insult.
If you see something wrong, use Report in the app. Reporting hides it for you. Hosts can delete dishes or comments. We ban an email when someone needs to stay out. We try to look at reports promptly. We do not promise a specific outcome.
6. Recipes are not professional advice
Recipes, tips, ratings, and other cooks’ notes are for sharing home cooking. They are not medical, nutrition, or food-safety advice. You are responsible for ingredients, allergens, cooking temperatures, and whether a dish is safe for you or anyone you feed.
7. Other people’s services
The app uses third parties to run, including hosting and login (Supabase), crash reports (Sentry), the website (Vercel), and optional public recipe data (TheMealDB). Their terms apply to their services. We are not responsible for sites you open from a recipe source link.
8. The app store
If you download Gusteaux from Apple, Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app. Apple’s media services terms still apply to your use of the App Store.
9. Disclaimers
Gusteaux is provided “as is.” We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content other cooks post is accurate or safe. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or personal injury arising from use of Gusteaux or from food you cook. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for Gusteaux in the 12 months before the claim (currently $0) or (b) fifty U.S. dollars. Some places do not allow these limits. In those places, our liability is limited to the maximum the law allows.
11. Ending your kitchen
You may stop using Gusteaux at any time. Delete your account in Settings to remove your profile, dishes, photos, and login. We may suspend or close kitchens that break these Terms. Provisions that should survive (including licenses for the limited time we need backups, disclaimers, and liability limits) survive.
12. Changes
We may change these Terms. We will update the date at the top and post the new version at this URL. If a change is material, we will also ask you to agree in the app when we can. Continued use after the new date means you accept the new Terms, except where the law requires a different process.
13. Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state of the operator’s principal residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, courts in that state may hear it, unless consumer law in your home requires otherwise.
14. Contact
For abuse, use Report in the app. To delete your data, use Settings → Delete account. For other legal notices, we will publish a contact email on this page when it is ready. Until then, the in-app report tools are the working channel for safety issues.
